Dear Faithful Readers,

Continuing off of last week's feature, I would like to take a minute to discuss all the revenue generating ideas we have seen over the last year. We are only able to highlight 26 here through "Selling It…", however there have been endless amounts of ideas that have been put into action. Want to prove your idea over the last year was the best in creating buzz and generating revenue? We have just the competition...the 2012 NSF SAMMY Award. The Sales, Advertising, Marketing or Management idea of the Year highlights the most successful sports ideas that had a distinct objective, were put into action, and created substantial results. Not only will the winner of the 2012 SAMMY Award be at the heart of idea sharing, they will receive free admission to the 2013 National Sports Forum as well as an invitation to host a Breakout Session on creativity and idea generating. If you executed an outstanding, innovative campaign that successfully met as well as exceeded your objectives, then don't hesitate to get the recognition that you and your team deserve by submitting your campaign today!

Enjoy the Feature,

Joe Shapero

PROGRAM TITLE

"The NSF SAMMY Award"

OBJECTIVES

To showcase the single best idea, program or event that had organizations, companies and teams asking themselves why they didn't do it earlier.

2011 WINNER

NOTE: For more information about the 2012 NSF SAMMY Award, please scroll down towards the bottom of the page.

The winning submission was the "Missing You" renewal campaign created by the Milwaukee Brewers. Following a poor season on the field and a difficult economy, the Brewers needed an innovative idea to retain existing season ticket holders.

The solution was a two-pronged, non-traditional, creative campaign designed to re-establish connections between Brewers Sales Representatives and Season Seat Holders. Phase 1 consisted of hand addressed, red Valentine's Day Cards used to pique curiosity. The inside of the card was personalized with the customer's and Sales Representatives names. Additionally, the cards were signed electronically by Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun with phone numbers for customers to contact them. Phase two of the "Missing You" campaign was made up of puzzle boxes which contained a sealed card that read, "Do Not Open Until Puzzle Is Complete." Upon completion, the puzzle was one piece short. The card read, "By now you've realized a key piece is missing. That piece is YOU."

The "Missing You" campaign was a major success enabling the Milwaukee Brewers to retain their current customer base. The campaign generated a 12% response rate and recovered $1,049,000 in lost revenue. It strengthened relationships between Brewers Sales Representatives and Season Seat Holders as well as opened doors for future sales opportunities.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

It's simple - all we need you to do is answer three questions:

1. What was your OBJECTIVE? (What were you looking to do?)

2. What ACTION did you take to accomplish that objective?

3. What was the RESULT of that action? (In other words ... what happened?)

After we receive your SAMMY submission and entry fee, a SAMMY jury consisting of sports industry professionals from the pro and collegiate teams here in San Diego will have the difficult task of reviewing all the submissions and narrowing them down to the six best ideas.

Once the six best ideas have been identified, we'll contact the "owners" of each of the six finalists and give them one month to prepare a ten-minute presentation for a special Super SAMMY finalists Breakout  session at the 2012 National Sports Forum on Tuesday, January 31, 2012! Take us through your company's program or idea... what did you set out to do... and what was the recipe for success.

Product and service providers - don't use the ten minutes as an infomercial to pitch your product... instead, tell us from the team's perspective, what was their objective and how you helped them meet their goals... or better yet have someone from the team present with you.

BENEFITS FOR 2012 WINNER

The winner of the 2012 NSF SAMMY Award will receive the following benefits:

  • Free registration to the 2013 NSF.

  • Invitation to host a Breakout Session on idea generating and creativity at the 2013 NSF.

  • Top three Finalists will receive a one year membership into the NSF Alumni Association AND be invited to speak on a live Alumni Association Panel Discussion Conference Call on innovation.
