PROGRAM TITLE

"Breakfast At The Park"

OBJECTIVES

Maximizing the use of your facility to enhance fan entertainment while increasing revenue is a common goal for sport franchises around the country. After witnessing a high number of baseball fans going out to breakfast or brunch on Sunday mornings before the game, the San Diego Padres saw a unique opportunity to take advantage of the San Diego weather and attract fans to the ballpark at an earlier time by creating Breakfast at the Park. The conception of Breakfast at the Park falls in line with a major goal of the Padres organization: to create additional opportunities for fans to have a unique and affordable experience at PETCO Park.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Before every Sunday home game, fans with tickets to the game are invited to come out early and enjoy breakfast on the PETCO Park playing field. Tables are set up on the warning track, and field seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Specialty food items for sale include a "Build a Baguette" and a Southwestern Egg Scramble Breakfast Bowl, as well as cinnamon rolls and fresh blueberry muffins. Along with the food, drinks such as coffee, juice, Mimosas and a Special Mix Bloody Mary are also available for purchase. Padres players, coaches and executives can often be found visiting and interacting with fans while they enjoy breakfast on the field. The gates open to Season Ticket Holders with reservations at 10 a.m. and to the general public at 10:30 a.m.

MEDIA

Breakfast at the Park is advertised through in-game video advertisements, TV and radio broadcasts and on the team website.

PARTNERS

The Padres partnered with PETCO Park concessionaire California Sportservice, which provides all of the unique breakfast food items that the Padres sell exclusively on Sundays at Breakfast at the Park.

RESULTS

Over the course of nine Sunday home games in 2010, Breakfast at the Park has attracted nearly 1,300 fans. Through Breakfast at the Park, the Padres are making fans feel more included in the team and the ballpark experience, while providing them with a memorable dining experience they cannot get anywhere else in the city. The Padres are proving that it is possible to utilize your ballpark efficiently and increase fan participation before home games.

According to Tom Garfinkel, President & COO, San Diego Padres, "What we have seen over the past year is that Breakfast at the Park is helping us increase direct interaction with fans, which is extremely important to the Padres organization. Fans get to meet with the players, meet our leadership team and interact with their families and each other. It has created an atmosphere of camaraderie and excitement at every home Sunday game."

LOOKING AHEAD

The Padres will continue "Breakfast at the Park" through the 2010 season, and will continue to look for ways to improve the promotion for the 2011 season.
