Program Title: "Phuel Philly"

Objective:76ers wanted to thank fans for their continued support and get them excited for the start of a new season. "Phuel Philly" was part of Sixers Tip-Off Week, a week long celebration leading up to the season tip-off.

Program Description: The entire Philadelphia 76ers team, coaches, broadcasters and front office staff pumped free gas at a LUKOIL gas station to thank fans for their loyal support.

This was an hour-long event where fans were able to bring their cars and receive a free tank of gas and have their windows washed by the players as part of the team’s Tip-Off Week.  Fans had the opportunity to interact with the team, get autographs and take pictures with their favorite players.

Fans also received static cling stickers featuring the 76ers marketing slogan for this season, “It’s a Philly Thing,” as well as the chance to interact with President and General Manager, Billy King, and the 76ers mascot Hip-Hop.

Media: The event was advertised through a press release, newspaper articles, as well as spots on the local radio and television stations. These were all run a few days prior to the event in order to create a good buzz and get the fans to come out to the LUKOIL station.

The day of the event, every local television station attended as well as four different radio stations who conducted live broadcasts from the event.

Partner: The 76ers teamed up with LUKOIL who provided the gas for 45 minutes while the players pumped it.

Results: The Philadelphia 76ers considered the event a huge success. Appproximately 100 cars received free gas and the event seemed well received by the fans. By the end of the day the 76ers definitely “phueled” Philly by pumping over 1700 gallons of gas and saving fans over $4,000 dollars in just under an hour.

Looking Ahead: This was a great event and there is definitely a chance that the 76ers will do it again.  The Sixers are thinking about the other opportunities for this event, such as repeating it as a push before the playoffs.

This was the second annual Sixers week. The team hopes to continue the event and continue to grow it in the future. Sixers Promotions Coordinator, Brandon Rost, stated that Sixers Week has been "a great way of making fans more aware of the start of the season and it's a great way to give back to fans before the beginning of the season.  It also allows us to get media coverage throughout the entire week leading up to the opener."
