U23s Notes and Quotes: Mississippi Brilla FC

After a week of bad weather due to Tropical Storm Debbie, the Orlando City U23s get their regular season back underway today as the team travels to Jackson, Miss., to face Mississippi Brilla FC in an ever-important Southeast Division match.

Notes:

-The Mississippi Brilla is associated with Brilla Soccer Ministries, an organization that shares Christianity through the sport of soccer.

-The club got the Brilla name, which means “shine” in Spanish, from a reference of a biblical passage from Matthew 5:16.

-Mississippi is currently in the sixth position in the standings of the Southeast Division with a record of 4-4-1 and 13 points.

-Dave Dixon, Brilla’s head coach, was a two-time NAIA All-American goalkeeper in his college days. He was also a finalist for the 2010 PDL Coach of The Year.

-Due to Tropical Storm Debbie, Brilla FC will host two Florida teams this weekend, with Orlando City on Friday and VSI Tampa Flames on Sunday.
