Shortly thereafter, Bertrand would find himself with another opportunity only to be stopped in his tracks yet again by the Memphis ‘keeper. The match would begin to get chippy with foul after foul for 17 total fouls just in the first half alone. Late in the first half, the young Lions would have a couple of near opportunities after Midfielder Andrew Brody began to insert himself into the action. The Orlando native played a simple pass to Noah Franke, who was making a run from his fullback position. Franke preceded to backheel the ball towards the middle of the box where Forward Romario Williams was seeking his sixth goal of the season, only to be denied by an opposing defender sliding in his path to block his effort. Orlando would get another chance when towering Defender Ian Svantesson leapt into air, latching onto Brody’s cross, but his effort went into the side netting just past the 30-minute mark. The second half would remain knotted at zero with no real opportunities for either squad until the 66th minute. Williams received a pass near the top of the area and took a touch before ripping a shot on target, but the Adrenaline ‘keeper, Michael Yantz, was able to come with his first save of the game. Southwest Florida would immediately break in numbers for a counter attack that saw second half substitute Alcides Thomas take a couple touches around an Orlando City defender inside the penalty area before pushing his shot just wide of the far post. Eight minutes later the striker would break the ice, finding the back of net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage in the 74th minute. Thomas was waiting in the box before heading in the go-ahead score when fellow second half substitute Midfielder Kevin Le Bras crossed the ball in from the right wing past the outstretched Uzcategui. The score would go on to be the only one Southwest Florida would need to win the game, although the U23s almost capitalized on a chance with five minutes remaining after Defender Eirik Bjoernoe made a run up the left side of the field and delivered a cross in the direction of one of City’s young strikers. Gorka Aperribay was able to latch onto the ball and hit a well-struck shot towards the bottom corner, but Yantz dove to his right for his sixth save of the match. City will play their final match the 2014 PDL season on Friday, July 18 at the home when they welcome the Floridians F.C. to the Seminole Soccer Compex with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
