Orlando City U23s announced today the final eight players for its 2014 campaign. Amongst the players from the final eight additions are several Florida natives, a pair from Georgia, and even one from Maryland and Missouri.

Orlando native, Andrew Brody, joins the U23s after spending his freshman season as an every day starter in the midfield for the University of Louisville. During that time, Brody finished second on the team with eight assists to go along with three goals. At the conclusion of his first collegiate season, the Louisville Cardinal midfielder received two post-season honors when he was named to both the Soccer America All-Freshman Second Team, and the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshman XI First Team.

Romilio Hernandez joins fellow Louisville teammate, Brody, in the U23s midfield for the 2014 PDL campaign this summer. The Maryland native appeared in 14 games during his freshman season as a Cardinal, while starting in six of them and was responsible for two assists during his first season in college.

During the 2013 NCAA soccer season, Daniel Johnson suited up for the ACC powerhouse – Maryland Terrapins – for his freshman campaign. The Georgia native played sparingly for the Terps, appearing in 10 matches while logging 233 minutes through the course of the year. Maryland just missed out on the chance of winning another NCAA National Championship, but suffered defeat in the final.

Defender Javier Clavijo joins the Lions after competing for nearby UCF during his freshman season, one in which he started 10 out of the 11 matches he appeared in during his first collegiate season in Orlando. Prior to joining the Knights, Clavijo was ranked the No. 1 player in Florida, No. 4 defender in the nation, and No. 20 overall player in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com. During his junior year of high school at Cypress Bay, he led his team to the Florida Class 5A state title.

The redshirt freshman forward, Nicco Rittmeyer, only made four appearances during his first season in Chapel Hill for the North Carolina Tarheels. Before Rittmeyer dawned the signature Carolina Blue, he was ranked as the No. 51 in the country by ESPN, No. 75 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, and No. 80 by College Soccer News. The Georgia native set a school record as a junior in high school when he recorded 50 goals while setting a national record by scoring a hat trick in 10 consecutive games.

Skyler Russell joins Orlando City’s backline after starting the last 40 games during his sophomore and junior seasons. In back-to-back campaigns, the defender from Missouri recorded eight assists for Rollins College and recorded his first collegiate goal back in 2012.

During his freshman campaign, Forward Alex Morrell was one of only four players on the roster to appear in all 17 matches for the University of North Florida. The freshman striker made an immediate impact for the Ospreys, finishing his rookie season fifth on the team in points (6), recording two goals and two assists and in reward was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team. Morrell stepped up his performance during his sophomore season in Jacksonville, this time finishing second on the team in points with eight.

Before heading off to Creighton University, Midfielder Noah Franke will dawn the purple and white one more time, this time for the U23s after spending several years as a member of the Orlando City Development Academy U18 squad. Franke appeared in 32 matches last year for U18 side and recorded three goals while wearing the captain’s armband for the Lions.
