ORLANDO, Fla. The Orlando City U23s travel to The Villages Polo Club in Ocala, Fla., on Wednesday, June 20, to square off against the Ocala Stampede in an important matchup between two teams tied for second place in the Southeast Division. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Lions last match resulted in a 0-0 draw against the VSI Tampa Flames in Bradenton, Fla., last Thursday. U23s Goalkeeper Brendan Moore recorded his third shutout of the season, leading the Orlando defense in an impressive outing against the Flames. The draw moved the U23s to 4-1-4, tying for second in the division with Wednesdays opponent. Ocala and Orlando have played twice in 2012, with each team taking a victory on their respective home grounds. The first match was back on May 26 in Orlando, when the U23s downed the Stampede 3-1 with the help of three goals from three separate Lions. The next match didnt fall in Orlandos favor, as the Stampede scored three goals in the second half at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala to secure the victory 4-2 and even the season series at 1-1. Current standings put the Lions and Stampede tied for second place with 16 points each. Both clubs are four points behind division-leader IMG Bradenton Academics, who has three games in hand on both teams. Orlando City U23s Head Coach Joe Avallone commented on facing Ocala for the third and final time of the season along with what the team has been up to this last week of practice. The match is very important for both teams, said Avallone. The team has trained well and been focused on the attacking third. Weve asked the boys to focus and be more assertive in the final third. Player to Watch- Brendan Moore: Orlando City U23s Goalkeeper Brendan Moore has recorded two straight shutouts to give the Lions four points in their last two away matches. In his one start against the Stampede on May 26 at the Seminole Soccer Complex, the Atlanta, Ga., native allowed only one goal on 10 shots faced, making three crucial saves in the 3-1 victory over the Stampede.
