Burke "The Only Ones Who Can Beat Us Are Ourselves"05/29/2013 1:46 PMBy: Orlando City Public Relations
Orlando City Defender Bryan Burke has seen his hard work pay off in the last few matches. The defender, who was signed in the offseason from USL PRO side LA Blues, has logged a goal and an assist in two consecutive matches, including Orlando’s first goal in their 3-1 win over Major League Soccer (MLS) side Colorado Rapids Tuesday night. The win advanced the Lions to the fourth round of the Open Cup competition for the first time in franchise history. The California native talked with Orlandocitysoccer.com Wednesday, saying the team’s most important game is always the next one on the schedule. “The most important game is the one in front of us,” Burke said after the team’s training on Tuesday at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, Fla. “We continue to think about what’s up next as a team.” Orlando has two regular season matches at home against Phoenix FC (Friday, June 7) and Antigua Barracuda FC (Sunday, June 9) before traveling to Kansas for the fourth round US Open Cup match vs. MLS affiliate Sporting Kansas City. Burke said the team is focused on Phoenix and is continuing to improve each and every day. “We’re getting into a groove of things the more we play,” Burke said after training. “When we step out on the field, we like to think that we’re the only team on the pitch. The only ones who can beat us are ourselves.” Photo: Alex Schierholtz |
