KANSAS CITY, Kan.- The T-Bones started out strong in their second game against the Gary SouthShore RailCats after losing in the first game of the series, earning their first home win of the season with a final score of 5–3.

Kansas City opened with a burst of energy, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI double from Zach Walters off the left field wall, allowing Dylan Tice to score. Cal Towey singled to centerfield sending Walters home to put KC up 2–0.

T-Bones pitcher Lucas Irvine threw a strikeout to start the second inning, but the T-Bones weren’t able to stop the Railcats, allowing a run, making the score 2–1 Kansas City. Hitting back hard, KC scored one more in the bottom of the second with an RBI from Tice sending Angel Rosa home to further the T-Bones lead 3–1.

Railcats’ Randy Santiesteban hit it straight to the T-Bones shortstop Rosa, who turned it into an electric double play, doubling off the runner at second base in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the third, the Railcats kept KC from scoring for the first time of the night.

The momentum slowed, with both teams remaining scoreless until the fifth inning when the Railcats’ Reggie Wilson scored on an RBI single from Alex Crosby, bringing the score to 3-2 KC. In the top of the sixth inning Francisco Gracesqui came in to pitch a scoreless inning facing four batters, striking out two.

Barrett Astin took over the mound in the next inning for KC and it was the Railcats’ turn for some momentum, tying the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning with an RBI from Mitch Glasser on a fielder's choice. Feeling the heat, the T-Bones responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of RBI singles from Nick Torres and Dexter Kjerstad putting KC up 5–3.

T-Bones pitcher Carlos Diaz came in and struck out Railcats’ Colin Willis, who was ejected from the game presumably for questioning the strike zone from the dugout in the top of the eighth. The Railcats shook up their defense in the bottom of the inning and, while it stopped the T-Bones from scoring, it was too late. The T-Bones Cody Winiarski was able to close out the game, notching his second save, putting up their second win of the season 5-3 and first at home.

The T-Bones (2-3) will continue their series with the Gary SouthShore RailCats tomorrow night in Kansas City at 7:05 p.m. in T-Bones Ballpark. Right-handed pitcher Luis Paula is set to throw for the T-bones while left-handed pitcher Alex Gunn is scheduled to throw for the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
