The Schaumburg Flyers (35-46) stole seven bases and capitalized on six wild pitches by Kansas City as they took game one of a three-game set against the T-Bones (35-45), 6-3, tonight at Alexian Field.

A solo home run by Richard Mercado off Ryan Knippschild (3-6) started a two-run second inning for the Flyers as they gained an early 2-0 lead.  Following the home run, Lyndon Poole singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Tony Mansolino to cap off the frame.

Poole struck again in the fourth inning, drawing a leadoff walk before stealing second and third and scoring Schaumburg’s third run on a sacrifice fly by T.J. Wilson.  An RBI single by Travis Brown pushed the Flyers’ lead to 4-0 later in the inning.

Ryan Fox (pictured) pulled Kansas City within two in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run off Alain Quijano, his 22^nd of the season.  Victor Ferrante walked to begin the bottom of the fifth and advanced two bases on a wild pitch.  Ferrante then scored on another wild pitch to make the score 5-2.

Knippschild left after six innings have allowed five runs on six hits in the loss.  He finished with four wild pitches, four walks and six strikeouts.

A solo home run by Damian Rolls began the eighth inning and capped of the T-Bones scoring on the night.  Quijano left following a strikeout to the next batter, earning the victory after surrendering three runs on eight hits in seven and one-thirds innings.  The left-hander struck out eight in the game.

Mansolino singled with two outs against Cody McAllister in the eighth and advanced two bases on a wild pitch.  He scored the final run when Wilson reached on an error, finishing the scoring at 6-3.  McAllister was charged with one unearned run on one hit as he threw the final two innings for Kansas City.

Kansas City brought the tying run to the plate against Jason Richardson in the ninth but a strikeout by Aharon Eggleston ended the contest and secured Richardson’s seventh save of the season.  Eggleston finished 0-for-five to snap a 38 game on-base streak, the second-longest streak in the Northern League this season.
