T-Bones Lock Up Third Straight Series Win

05/27/2009 10:36 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones defeated the Joliet JackHammers 5-4 tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark to secure their third consecutive series win.

Chris Rhoads threw five shutout innings for Kansas City in front of 3,188 before surrendering a run to the JackHammers with two outs in the sixth.  The right-hander allowed just the one run on six hits over five and two-thirds innings while striking out four to earn his first win of the season.

Aaron Trolia threw a perfect first inning for Joliet, but Jim Fasano drew a walk to begin the second.   Fasano then moved to third on a double by Ken Harvey and scored on a wild pitch.  An RBI single by Craig Hurba plated Harvey, and Hurba was driven in on a two-run home run by John Urick that made the score 4-0.

Following the four-run fourth, Trolia threw three shutout innings before being ejected after surrendering two hits to begin the sixth.  Drew Shetrone entered and induced a groundout before Harvey scored the fifth and final run for the T-Bones on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Fox, pushing the score to 5-1.  All five runs were charged to Trolia who took the loss after allowing eight hits over five-plus innings of work.

Weston Curles relieved Rhoads with two out and one on in the sixth.  The left-hander gave up one run in the seventh on an RBI single by Adam Klein before giving way to Cody McAllister in the eighth.  McAllister surrendered a home run to Phil Avlas to begin the frame and allowed another run on an RBI single by Kevin Rios, making the score 5-4.

Todd Moser relieved McAllister in the ninth.  After a quick groundout to start the inning, Klein doubled to right-center.  During the next at bat, Klein was caught too far off second by Hurba and was thrown out by the T-Bones catcher.  Hurba caught four baserunners stealing in the contest.  Moser struck out K.C. Herren to end the game and secure his first save of the season.

Hurba also contributed with a two-for-three night.  Harvey finished three-for-three with an intentional walk in the seventh.

The T-Bones go for the series sweep tomorrow night when they send Luis Villarreal to the mound opposite Brad Mumma.  First pitch is at 7:05.  Single game, group, All-You-Can-Eat and season tickets are still available for the homestand and start at just $6.  For more information and to reserve your seats, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com
