Kansas City Finishes Exhibition Season with Win

05/12/2009 9:59 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones used two home runs and six RBI from Damian Rolls to defeat the River City Rascals 8-5 in their final exhibition game of 2009 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The Rascals jumped out in front early, plating four runs, three earned, on three hits against Kansas City starter Ryan Knippschild.  The first two runs scored on a double by Kevin Reynolds before a triple from Chris Colton plated the third.  Colton later scored on a groundout by Scott Houin.

Rolls plated three runs with his first home run of the night to pull Kansas City within one.  Following an RBI triple by Chad Maddox in the fourth, Rolls blasted another home run in the fifth, this time a two-run shot that tied the game at five.

Knippschild left after four innings have surrendered five runs, three earned, on five hits while striking out six.

The T-Bones took their only lead of the game on a two-run home run by Ryan Fox off Jared Sutton in the seventh inning.  They pushed the final total to 8-5 with an RBI groundout by Jeff Helps in the eighth.  Hiarali Garcia pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to earn the victory.

After Andy Shipman threw a scoreless ninth for the save, the two teams decided to play the bottom of the ninth anyway.  Kansas City added one more run in the frame on a sacrifice fly from Rolls, pushing his RBI total to six.  He finished the contest two-for-three with two home runs.  John Urick went three-for-three for a solid night as well.
