Potters sweep CrabsThe Lincoln Potters continued their recent hot streak, defeating the Humboldt Crabs 9-4 to sweep the three-game weekend series. The win was also the fourth in a row for the Potters, providing some much needed momentum as they head back into California Collegiate League play. “It's huge man. That's always a quality team up there at Humboldt and to have them come down here and for us to take a sweep, that's huge momentum for our guys,” said manager Ryan Stevens. “For me personally, it's just a good feeling. The last couple of years we've kind of split it and they've beat us so to put a staple on a series felt good.” The Crabs pulled out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning but Lincoln tied things up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI walk by Drew Stahl and sac fly by Chase Stanke. Humboldt pulled back ahead with a two run homer in the eighth, but the Potters used some late inning magic in the bottom frame. Jeffrey David led the inning off with a no doubt solo shot to cut the Humboldt lead to 4-3. JT Waldon tied it up at four with an RBI single that scored Nolan McCarthy, but the Potters were far from done. Trevor Tishenkel gave the Potters the lead with a two-run blast that just cleared the right field fence inside the foul pole. David added some insurance with two outs in the inning, scoring three with a bases clearing double to bring Lincoln’s lead up to five. “As a coaching staff we preach just keep fighting, and these guys showed a ton of fight today. I think that's kind of the teams we have here. We have a lot of grit we have a lot of fight,” said Stevens about his team’s comeback. The Potter pitching continued its strong weekend in Sunday’s series finale. Stanford-bound Nick Dugan made the start against his hometown team and went five innings, allowing just two runs, both unearned. Ryan Green took over in the sixth and pitched two and one-third innings of shutout baseball to keep the score the same. Nate Kujawski, Devin Marton, and Ryan Sturgeon combined to finish the game. Marton earned the win in relief despite surrendering two runs on a homer. The Potters are back in action on Tuesday when the Healdsburg Prune Packers come to town as CCL play starts once again. Both teams will see each other again on Wednesday in Healdsburg. You can find tonight’s box score here. |
