Potters Off to Best Start in Team History

By Jordan Georgeson

The Potters found themselves in another wild back and forth game at McBean tonight in their 8-7 win over the Sacramento Yankees. The Yankees got ahead early with a big home run by Judah Morris in the 2nd inning. The Potters were no strangers to playing from behind however, and they answered back with a homer of their own in the bottom of the 2nd followed by a 4 run third inning. The Potters and Yankees exchanged leads throughout the game until the Potters pulled ahead 8-6 in the 7th. Lincoln was able to fend off a late rally by the Yankees in the top of the 8th to hold on to win the ballgame 8-7. The Potters now improve to 5-0, the best start in team history.

Catcher Kenneth Jimenez made a splash in his first at bat as a Potter with a big solo home run to left field in the 2nd. Jimenez would also add a crucial single in the 7th that would result in a run for the Potters. Trace Willhoite added 3 RBI in the 3rd with a big double to give the Potters their first lead of the night. Jack Grant had the play of the night however as he hit a towering two run home run in the 7th to give the Potters an 8-6 lead.

Lincoln’s bullpen was crucial to the win tonight as the Potters used 5 different pitchers in the game. Brandon Gomez entered in relief in the 4th inning and struck out 4 while only allowing 2 earned runs. Marlin Brucato earned the win in relief after shutting down the Yankees in the 7th. Brucato allowed no hits, walks, or runs and struck out 2 in his appearance. Potters legend Eli Garcia earned the save as he closed out the 8th and returned in the 9th to close the door on Sacramento.

The Potters will welcome the Sacramento Yankees back to McBean tomorrow to wrap up the brief two game series. First pitch will be at 6:05pm. Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
