09/02/2006 8:48 PM - GARY, Ind. - The Kansas City T-Bones (23-24, 45-50) were officially eliminated from playoff contention in the Northern League's East Division second-half race, losing 3-0 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (25-22, 49-46) at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind. RailCat southpaw Josh Habel struck out twelve T-Bones in seven innings, earning his eighth win of the season.

Habel limited the T-Bones to just one hit through the first five innings, a second-inning single by Darryl Lawhorn. The lefty whiffed nine T-Bones through the first five, and was staked to a first-inning lead when RailCat Tanner Townsend, who had doubled, scored on a single by Jermaine Allensworth. Allensworth was promptly picked off first by T-Bone starter Jonathan Krysa.

Krysa allowed a second run to the RailCats in the third inning, a sacrifice fly from Chris Curry with the bases loaded. However, Krysa worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in that inning with minimal damage, and wound up scattering twelve hits while striking out five in 7 1/3 innings of work.

The T-Bones put together threats in the sixth and seventh innings, leaving the tying runs in scoring position in each inning against Habel. But Gary would score an eighth-inning insurance run against Krysa, with Jarrod Patterson's sacrifice fly to left bringing home the third RailCat run. Krysa left the game after surrendering a single to Andy Rohleder, giving way to reliever Logan McElwain, who induced a double play grounder from Mike Coles.

Kansas City went down in order in the ninth inning against Gary reliever Pete Sikaras, who earned his seventh save of the season.

The T-Bones and RailCats finish the regular season tomorrow at 2:05 pm. Hank Woodman (4-5, 4.72) will start for the T-Bones, while Willie Glen (11-5, 3.82) gets the nod for the RailCats. The game will be broadcast live on 610 Sports in Kansas City and on the Internet at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
