The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks haven’t lost a step since winning the North League’s first-half title. On Thursday, Fargo stayed in stride by finishing off the T-Bones 7-1, handing them their first sweep of the season.

Greg Jacobs got the T-Bones off to a promising start in the bottom of the first with his fifth home run of the year off RedHawks’s ace Brandon Culp. However, the solo shot was the only run Culp would allow in his six innings of work in limiting the T-Bones to six hits in picking up his eighth victory of the season.

Trailing 1-0, Fargo quickly countered with two runs in the second inning and never looked back. Five RedHawks recorded at least two hits in the contest. Joe Mathis tripled in a run and had two for the game and Ruben Salazar connected for his fifth homer of the year in the winning effort.

T-Bone starter David Viane (L, 4-3) pitched four innings and received the loss in the series finale. The righty allowed eight hits and surrendered six runs in his fifth start of the season. After Viane left, the T-Bones bullpen pitched effectively only allowing one more run over the next five innings. However, the RedHawks bullpen was just as good, holding the T-Bones hitless and scoreless after Culp left.

The T-Bones continue their homestand with another three game series against the Schaumburg Flyers beginning tomorrow at 7:05. Fans can listen to the game on www.tbonesbaseball.com or on KCKN 1340 in Kansas City.

Notes: Rick Prieto extended his hitting streak to eight games, dating back to June 25… no T-Bone had more than one hit in the game… the tough outing for Viane comes on the heels of his best outing of the season, in which he allowed just two hits in 7.1 IP.
