T-Bones Upend RedHawks in Series Opener

05/26/2006 10:47 PM - FARGO - The Kansas City T-Bones capitalized on another quality effort from a starting pitcher to seize a 6-2 victory in Friday night’s series opener with Fargo-Moorhead. Larry Robles followed up Jonathan Krysa’s Thursday night gem by striking out eight RedHawks and allowing just one run on four hits through seven innings to help the club win its second straight contest.

Kansas City jumped on top with a single run in the top of the fourth when Greg Jacobs singled to lead-off the inning, then came around on Blake Whealy's RBI single. The T-Bones added two more runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.

Fargo-Moorhead answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the T-Bones never looked back, as Eddie Pearson delivered a two-out, two-run single that scored Eric Vega and Chad Sosebee in the seventh to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Jacobs came home on an errant throw in the top of the ninth inning to answer an eighth-inning RedHawk tally and account for the final margin.

James Morrison retired the final five batters of the game to earn his first save and seal the win for Robles (1-1)- his first as a T-Bone.

Mike Peschel (0-1) took the loss in his first start of the season for Fargo-Moorhead.

Tomorrow night the two clubs will square off in game two of the three-game series from Newman Outdoor Field. Greg Bicknell (1-1) will take the mound for the T-Bones, while Todd George (1-0) gets the ball for the RedHawks. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes: LHP Ryan Tauscher made his first professional appearance since 1999 when he relieved Caleb Balbuena in the eighth inning; he struck out Eric Kofler with runners on first and second with no outs…Greg Jacobs single in the fourth stretched his hitting streak to 13 games, dating back to August 31, 2005.
