(June 10, 2018) -- The York Revolution could not get the bats going in the series finale against the Long Island Ducks, falling 2-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. Ducks starter Matt Larkins blanked the Revs in a complete game to lift the Ducks to their third win of the four-game series.
After a one-hour, 50-minute pregame rain delay, the Ducks scored early on Revs starter Pat McCoy. Taylor Ard, who drove in the winning run in Saturday night’s game, hit a two-out, two-run home run over the wall in left field, just inside the foul pole to put the Ducks up 2-0.
McCoy settled in and worked five scoreless innings after the first, exiting the game after six innings with three strikeouts while scattering seven hits and allowing just the two first-inning runs. He retired 11 in-a-row from the third out of the second inning until allowing a single with one out in the sixth.
McCoy’s outing ended with a spark as Revs left fielder Welington Dotel threw out Travis Snider at the plate to save a run from scoring, keeping the score at 2-0.
The Revs offense could not get anything going against Larkins, who gave up just two hits through the first five innings. The Revs strung two hits together against him in the seventh, but did not score.
After McCoy exited the game for York, Jailen Peguero worked a scoreless seventh inning before Tyler Cravy tossed a scoreless eighth and Zac Treece handled a scoreless top of the ninth.
Having worked around a two-out single in the eighth, Larkins came back out for the Ducks in the bottom of the ninth. After Larkins struck out the leadoff man Silva, Alexi Casilla dropped down a bunt single and Dotel followed with a single to right to set up first and second with one out. Larkins came back to get the final two outs on fielder's choices to preserve the shutout and finish off the game.
McCoy (0-1) took the hard-luck loss while Larkins (4-1) earned his fourth win. Larkins joins former Revs righty Zac Grotz whose contract was purchased by the New York Mets on Saturday as the only two Atlantic League pitchers to throw a nine-inning complete game shutout this season.
In the loss, Travis Witherspoon went 3-for-3 with three singles.
The Revs have an off day on Monday, their only scheduled off day in June, before heading to Somerset on Tuesday for a three-day, four-game series with the Patriots.
