REVS SWEPT IN TWINBILL

(May 2nd, 2018) -- The York Revolution were swept in a day-night doubleheader, falling 3-2 and 10-4 to the Road Warriors on Wednesday at PeoplesBank Park.  The Revs fall to 4-3 through the opening homestand of the 2018 season.

In the day game, Jared Mitchell got things going with a leadoff triple to right-center field and scored on an overthrow to third base on the play to put the Revs up 1-0, one batter in.

That was the extent of the scoring until the late innings as Revs starter Zac Grotz and Road Warriors starter Raul Rivera were both dealing.

Grotz finished the day after five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one walk with four strikeouts, leaving in line for the win.

Rivera went six innings, giving up one run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Jose Tabata got the Revs an insurance run in the seventh with a solo home run over the Arch Nemesis in left field, extending the lead to 2-0 after Joe Van Meter had thrown two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Luke Westphal added a scoreless inning, striking out the side in the eighth and preserving the Revs’ 2-0 lead.

Junior Rincon came on for the save in the ninth and got the first two batters out without breaking a sweat, but then gave up two singles. With runners at first and second, Road Warriors catcher A.J. Jimenez hit a three-run home run over the wall in left to give the Road Warriors a 3-2 lead. It was the first extra-base hit for the Road Warriors on the season and it gave Rincon a blown save.

The Revs went down in order in the ninth, suffering the heartbreaking loss.

Jailen Peguero (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Road Warriors while Rincon (0-1) took the loss for York.

Game 2 started well for the Revs but ended poorly, as the Road Warriors picked up a 10-4 win to sweep the doubleheader and win the series.

The Revs scored first on Zach Wilson’s two-run home run to left-center field off Road Warriors starter Kelvin Villa, giving the Revs a 2-0 lead early.

The Road Warriors chipped away. Alfredo Silverio hit a solo home run in the second and Edwin Gomez added a solo shot in the fourth off Revs starter Ross Detwiler.

With the score tied 2-2 in the fifth, Wilson launched a solo home run over the high wall in left. It was his second homer of the game and third of the season, to make it 3-2 Revs.

Detwiler went six strong for the Revs, allowing just the two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and only one walk. His command was excellent all night and he left in line for the win.

Villa went five innings and gave up three runs for the Road Warriors.

Things went south for the Revs in the seventh, as three relievers combined to give up eight runs on seven hits. The scoring for the Road Warriors started with A.J. Jimenez’ RBI double and the breakout inning included a two-run home run from Gomez, his second of the night. The Road Warriors led 10-3 at that point.

The Revs managed one more run on Rubi Silva’s RBI single in the eighth to make it 10-4.

Zac Treece (0-1), who failed to record an out and gave up three runs in the seventh, suffered the loss for York while Chris Treibt (1-0) earned the win for the Road Warriors.
