(August 15, 2017 – Sugar Land, TX): The York Revolution dropped their series opener to the Sugar Land Skeeters, 6-4 on Tuesday night in front of 3,849 fans at Constellation Field. The Revs slip to 21-17 in the second half, two games behind Lancaster for first place.
York jumped out to an early lead as Michael Burgess drilled an opposite field two-run homer to left, his 13th of the year, with two outs in the first. Carlos Triunfel launched a solo shot to left, his seventh of the year, an inning later to give York a 3-0 lead.
Revs starter Jay Gause was sharp early, but ran into trouble in the third. After a leadoff walk to Caleb Ramsey, Joe Benson cracked a two-run homer to left field to get the Skeeters on the board. Josh Prince followed with another walk, stole second, moved to third on an infield hit by Anthony Giansanti, and scored on a Kevin Ahrens sac fly to tie the game at 3-3.
Bryan Pounds took a leadoff walk in the fourth and the Skeeters capitalized again. Albert Cordero and Ramsey followed with singles to load the bases, and Prince skied a sac fly to center field to give Sugar Land a 4-3 lead.
The Revs tied it in the fifth when Ramsey dropped a Burgess fly ball with two outs, allowing Isaias Tejeda to score from first base, but it was an unearned run on Sugar Land starter Jake Hale (8-5) who survived to work six innings and pick up the win.
Sugar Land went back in front on an RBI single to right by Cordero in the bottom of the fifth. Cordero (3-for-4) added the insurance run in the seventh on a two-out RBI double off the wall in left-center, plating Travis Scott who had led off with a bunt single.
Gause (8-2) suffered the loss, charged with five runs in four-plus innings. It marked the first time in ten starts he had allowed more than three runs, and snapped a five-game winning streak for the right-hander, which had tied the third longest by a starter in franchise history.
Mark Haynes capped a strong night for the Sugar Land bullpen with a perfect ninth for his 11th save.
Notes: The Revs have tied a season-high by homering in six consecutive games. The Revs have hit 96 home runs as a team, second-most in the league this season. York has nine team home runs in the last six games. Gause's five-game winning streak was the longest by a Revs starter since Jorge Martinez won five in-a-row to close the 2014 season. York righty Victor Mateo (5-7, 3.86) faces Sugar Land right-hander Brett Marshall (7-7, 4.40) on Wednesday at 8:05 p.m. ET.
