(July 10, 2022 – Waldorf, Md.): The York Revolution earned their first victory of the second half with a 7-3 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday afternoon at Regency Furniture Stadium. The win avoids a sweep for the Revs who are off until Tuesday’s series opener on the road against the Charleston Dirty Birds.
York scored immediately in the top of the first as Yefri Perez nailed a first pitch double to right-center and scored when Elmer Reyes singled into right. That lead grew to 2-0 in the second on a Perez sac fly to center, plating Troy Stokes Jr. who had led off with a base hit to right, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
The Blue Crabs tied it at 2-2 in the third, scoring on back-to-back RBI singles by David Harris and Alex Crosby.
York answered right back in the fourth as Stokes Jr. and Jack Kenley reached on back-to-back singles, setting the table for Stokes Jr. to score on a throwing error by first baseman Jared Walker on a fielder’s choice. Perez added an RBI ground out to second for a 4-2 lead.
Nellie Rodriguez ripped a leadoff double to deep left in the fifth and scored on a fielding error by second baseman Raul Shah as the lead grew to 5-2.
Harris homered to left in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead to 5-3.
York scored twice in the ninth inning against closer Mat Latos on back-to-back two-out RBI doubles off the left field wall by Carlos Franco and JC Encarnacion, providing the final margin.
Jorge Martinez (7-4) picked up the victory on short rest, battling through five innings to hold the Blue Crabs to three runs despite seven hits and three walks. Martinez struck out 10 batters, taking the league lead with 90 strikeouts on the season, and joining Mitch Atkins (2018) as the only pitchers in Revs history with three double-digit strikeout games in a single-season or in a Revs career. The win was his 21st all-time in a York uniform, moving ahead of Wayne Franklin for sixth on the club’s all-time list.
York’s bullpen handled the final four innings in scoreless fashion, allowing only a sixth inning infield single. Brett de Geus fired two scoreless frames, while Nick Howard and Jim Fuller took care of the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
