The first-ever VYPE 7 on 7 Tournament hosted by PrimeTime Sports showcased some serious talent last weekend at the Farm League in the Klein-area.

While the high school teams are just warming up for the upcoming season, there was an impressive talent pool competing in the one-day event.

At the varsity level, Tomball Memorial knocked off Cypress Lakes in the finals with a well-designed offense that the Spartans couldn’t solve. Cy Lakes looks to be much improved in the regular fall season as new coach Ronald Patton takes the reigns. The excitement surrounding the Spartan program is noticeable and there seems to be a renewed pride around team. Tomball Memorial looked strong as several underclassmen seem to be emerging.

Elsik looked tremendously impressive and athletic. US All-American Dontavious Jackson looked the part and played the part in the middle of the Ram defense. He has tremendous vision and anticipation. He tipped several balls and had a couple of interceptions during their three games. Jackson’s athleticism at 6-foot-3, 240-pounds stands out.

Chris Brown, who also holds a dozen DI offers, is a big, athletic corner who could move to safety at the next level. His closing speed was on display against the Rams’ opponents. On offense, running back EJ Davis is going to be a beast with the ball in his hands next season as he showed that he can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Hightower will be a major force in the regular football season and had flashes last weekend. Linebacker Clifton Lewis patrolled the middle of the field and showed why teams like TCU, Baylor, Houston and Kansas State have offered him among others. Quarterback Neiko Hollins looks the part at 6-foot-4 and can see deep into the secondary. His arm is explosive as well.

“It was great to host our first tournament and see some high-caliber DI talent on display,” VYPE publisher and scout Matt Malatesta said. “Dontavious, Chris Brown, EJ Davis, Clifton Lewis and Neiko Hollins look the part of college players already. It was great for them to run around and get the competitive juices flowing again.”

In the ninth grade division, Austin Westlake made the trip and took home the hardware knocking off the likes of Klein Oak and Barbers Hill in the finals. Their complex offense was too much for the competition.

College Station Viscous knocked off the Katy Red Raiders in the 8^th grade division with great quarterback play, while Texas Thunder beat Fort Bend in the 6^th grade finals. The Texas Rebels defeated the Draft Picks in the fifth grade championship.
