VYPE 7on7 Tourney Set to KickoffBy:
Over 40 teams will participate in VYPE’s 7 on 7 Tournament presented by PrimeTime Sports this weekend at the Farm League to kick off the passing-league slate that will run through late June and commence at the Tournament of Champions in College Station. “This is really where the 2015 football season really begins,” VYPE publisher Matt Malatesta said. “It’s just before Spring practice and we get to see a sneak peak of the Who’s Who in Houston-area football.” Klein Oak, Morton Ranch, Galena Park and Elsik headline the varsity level. Elsik reached the playoffs last season and return several big-time prospects to the huddle this season. Linebacker Dontavious Jackson is arguably the hottest recruiting in the city of Houston will offers from every major BCS program from Alabama to UCLA. He is joined on defense by corner Chris Brown, who has over a dozen offers including Michigan. Running back EJ Davis is one of the most dynamic rushers in Texas with over 2,000 yards a year ago and can catch the ball out of the backfield. The Klein Oak Panthers had a tremendous run to the regional finals a year ago and get it started early at the VYPE Event. Klein Oak’s Austin Davis will be a highly-recruited 2016 receiver on display while Nygel King holds a half dozen DI offers as a Panther defensive back. Morton Ranch missed the playoffs but running back Dartavius Dixson returns to lead the Mavs in 2015 after scoring 10 times and rushing for over 800 yards. Tomball Memorial, Klein Oak, Cy Creek, Kingwood and Cy Lakes will do battle in the junior varsity division as players try and make a name for themselves and earn varsity spots. Cy Ranch, Brazoswood, Klein Oak, Barbers Hill, Klein, Beaumont West Brook, Stratford and Galena Park will field the ninth grade teams. While the high school divisions are just beginning to field their teams, the youth and junior high divisions are well-represented this weekend. VYPE Magazine will be on-hand evaluating the play all day and will have complete coverage on vypehouston.com during the event. Stay tuned and get into the game.
