Perspective and Boundaries from David Stephens, CEO
I started PrimeTime Sports in large part because of my respect for healthy competition in general and the love of the game of basketball specifically. Those emotions continue to drive me each and every day to deliver our commitment to competitive excellence to all of our teams. While I have never waivered in knowing I am doing what I was destined to do, I must say that I continue to be bothered by the increasing disregard for sportsmanship and failure of adults to maintain reasonable boundaries of conduct in cheering for their team.
Don't mistake my message...I am not a warm and fuzzy guy...I just believe that in all competition there will be winners and losers, and everyone needs to learn to win with grace and lose with dignity. These are two of the most important lessons young people will learn in competition, which is made much more difficult when the adults around them fail to conduct themselves as they should.
This was reinforced for me recently when I read an article titled Rec Rage, and knew I wanted to share the message with everyone that plays PrimeTime Sports. Click Here to read the article.
Don't put yourself in the position of being like the parent who offered the following quote after he was caught shining a laser in the eyes of the opposing team's goalie: I wish I could undo it. I feel like a complete jerk. It was very stupid, completely immature for a 42-year-old man to be doing that. The humiliation I put (my daughter) through is sickening, to tell you the truth.
All I am suggesting is help your child follow his or her dreams, create opportunities for them to be successful and grow physically and emotionally, and enjoy the journey, but always remember one of your biggest responsibilities through all of this is to model behavior for your child and other young people.
