Rain or Shine - PrimeTime Soccer Moves IndoorsBy: Matt Reese
The spring of 2015 in Texas has been bombarded with historic rains, massive thunderstorms and all around bad weather. Because of this, outdoor sports have suffered. Tournaments have been cancelled, fields are torn up and jerseys destroyed.
Sometimes, you can’t beat Mother Nature.
Sometimes, you can.
After learning that McInnish Park was to be closed in Carrollton the weekend of May 29th due to the Trinity River flooding, PrimeTime’s Soccer Cup Championship was in danger of being cancelled.
At PrimeTime, though, we focus on solutions.
After exhausting all outdoor possibilities, PrimeTime looked indoors.
Futsal, an extremely popular version of soccer played around the world, was the answer. Played with five players per squad (four outfield and one goalie), futsal is fast-paced, skill-intensive game and a new experience for many soccer players.
Hosted at the REAL Soccer Center — which opened in February 2015 — the indoor futsal tournament featured 89 of the original 106 teams registered to play in the Sports Cup.
With six 30x15 yard turf fields available, the three-day tournament went off without a hitch.
For many teams, getting to play any type of soccer was a relief after much of the spring season has been whitewashed.
