SMA Announces Annual Undergraduate Case Study Competition at SMAX

ORLANDO – The Sport Marketing Association (SMA) is pleased to announce its annual undergraduate student case study competition, which will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2012 during the 10th Annual SMA Conference in Orlando.

The undergraduate case study competition will take place in conjunction with the Thursday evening student dinner and social. The competition will consist of team members compiling a solution paper to be submitted prior to the conference, along with a 15-minute oral presentation to a panel of expert academic and industry judges. The winning teams will be announced at Friday’s SMA Recognition Awards Luncheon.

The undergraduate student case study competition will run concurrent to the graduate case study competition. Further details and the official undergraduate case study competition rules are listed below:

  • Team Make-up: Two (2) teams per school will be permitted to participate in the undergraduate case study competition. Teams should be comprised of four (4) currently enrolled students.
     
  • Academic Advisor: Each team may also have one (1) academic advisor to serve solely as a liaison between the team and the SMA Vice President of Student Affairs. The advisor should not be involved in the case study analysis, solution paper, or presentation preparation. This person must be identified and approved by the organizers of the 2012 SMA case competition.
     
  • Registration Deadline: Each team’s advisor should send a registration email to Dr. Andrea N. Eagleman, the coordinator of the student case study competition, at [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 26. The email should contain the institution name, names of all team members, and that the team is registering for the undergraduate competition.
     
  • Competition Timeline: The case study and solution paper guidelines will be sent to each team’s advisor on Monday, October 1. Teams should submit their solution papers to Dr. Andrea N. Eagleman at [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. ET on Monday, October 15. All oral presentations will be given starting at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 25 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.
     
  • Presentations: Each team’s presentation should be no longer than 15 minutes in length and will be followed by approximately five (5) minutes of questions from the judges. The use of PowerPoint or other presentation software/technology is permitted and encouraged.
