Roaders Win, Fall Short of Playoffs09/02/2019 4:18 PM Article By: FARGO, N.D. (Sep. 2, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders got a marvelous start from Charlie Gillies and shut out the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 2-0 on Monday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. Despite the victory, the Sioux City Explorers defeated the Kansas City T-Bones to secure the second and final playoff berth in the South Division by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker. Cleburne finishes the 2019 season with a 57-43 record, the best in franchise history by ten games. Gillies (6-7) was magnificent in his final start of the year, handcuffing the RedHawks (63-37) over 6.2 innings. The right-hander struck out four and walked just one, allowing five hits. With his strikeout of Chris Jacobs to end the first inning, he notched the 500th strikeout of his professional career. Cleburne’s bullpen continued Gillies’ good work by retiring all seven Fargo-Moorhead hitters they faced. Nefi Ogando recorded the final out of the seventh and the first out of the eighth, before Eudis Idrogo made his first relief appearance of the year and set down two lefties to end the inning. Tyler Wilson fired a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to secure his 24th save of the season, one shy of the Railroaders franchise record. The Railroaders offense came via a pair of RBI singles, as Zach Nehrir ripped an RBI knock in the top of the fourth and Daniel Robertson added a run-scoring hit in the fifth to give Cleburne the 2-0 lead. All the damage came against Fargo-Moorhead starter Bret Helton (6-7), who allowed five hits over 6.0 innings of work while walking four and striking out three. The American Association Postseason begins on Wednesday, with Sioux City and Kansas City meeting in the South and Fargo-Moorhead and St. Paul squaring off in the North.
