SIOUX CITY, Iowa. (Aug. 22, 2019) – Jose Sermo skied a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Sioux City Explorers a 4-3 win over the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday night at Lewis and Clark Park.

Bryan Saucedo (2-2) started the inning with three straight walks, setting the stage for Sermo. His high fly ball to center carried to Zach Nehrir, whose throw to the plate was late as Drew Stankiewiciz slid in with the winning run.

The script was similar to Wednesday evening, as Cleburne grabbed an early lead. In the first inning, back-to-back RBI doubles from Chase Simpson and John Nester gave the Railroaders (53-37) a 2-0 advantage.

Sermo sliced an opposite-field solo homer in the fourth to make it 2-1, which would remain the score until the seventh. With runners at first and second with one out, Dylan Kelly hit a hard ground ball through the legs of Grant Buck, plating the tying run and moving the go-ahead run to third. Kyle Wren followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Explorers (50-39) the lead, 3-2.

Cleburne answered in the top of the eighth, as Daniel Robertson led off the inning with a double, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly from Nester.

Tyler Wilson worked around three baserunners in the bottom of the ninth, and Jared Wilson tossed two scoreless innings to preserve the tie. Matt Pobereyko worked four scoreless innings for Sioux City, while Tyler Falwell (8-5) earned with win with a zero in the top of the 12th.

The Railroaders and Explorers conclude the series on Friday night at 7:12 PM. Eudis Idrogo (8-4, 4.53) gets the ball for Cleburne, while Sioux City will counter with right-hander Pete Tago (3-3, 3.06).
