SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Aug. 19, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders scored eight runs in the first three innings and five more in the top of the ninth as they hung on for a 14-8 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Monday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

For the second straight night, the Cleburne offense got to work early against the Sioux Falls starter. Mark Seyler (3-8) allowed multiple runs in each of the first three innings, as Cleburne (52-35) seized the early initiative. Chase Simpson got it started with a three-run blast in the first inning, giving him three homers through the first two games of the series. The Canaries (34-52) answered back with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the inning, as Clint Coulter and Mike Hart notched RBI singles to make it 3-2.

The Railroaders pushed across two runs of their own in the top of the second, with Grant Buck doubling home Angel Rosa and Angel Reyes adding an RBI single to extend the lead back to 5-2.

The Canaries again found two two-out runs in the bottom of the second, this time coming via a two-run double from Mitch Glasser that cut the lead to 5-4.

In the top of the third, it was Cleburne with the two-out magic. Buck smacked a run-scoring single, then after an error prolonged the inning, Daniel Robertson delivered a two-run single that extended the advantage to 8-4. A wild pitch in the top of the seventh made it 9-4 Railroaders.

Sioux Falls made things interesting with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. The inning started with three consecutive walks, then Jordan Ebert lined a two-run single. A Josh Rehwaldt sacrifice fly added another run, before Brett Vertigan capped the scoring in the frame with an RBI single that pulled the Canaries within 9-8.

The Canaries issued four walks of their own in the top of the ninth, helping Cleburne score five runs. Rosa delivered a two-out RBI single to start the scoring, then a bases-loaded walk to K.C. Huth made it 11-8. Logan Trowbridge followed with a hard smash to third that Jordan Ebert gloved on a dive, but his throw to first was low and skipped into foul ground, allowing two runs to score. Reyes followed with an RBI single to complete the scoring.

John Shull fired a scoreless bottom of the ninth to close it out, securing a win for Michael Gunn (4-0), who battled his way through six innings while allowing ten hits and four runs.

The Railroaders and Canaries conclude their series on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. Stephen Johnson (8-1, 2.68) gets the start for Cleburne, while Sioux Falls has not named their starter.
