GARY, Ind. (July 14, 2019) – Kenny Meimerstorf’s RBI single in the top of the seventh and six great innings from Eudis Idrogo lifted the Cleburne Railroaders to a 3-1 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard. The win secured the ‘Roaders sixth consecutive series win, extending their franchise record.

With the game tied 1-1 into the seventh, Hunter Clanin led off the frame with a double down the left field line against Gary SouthShore reliever Colby Morris (0-1). Meimerstorf followed with a looping liner to the opposite field that scored Clanin from second, giving the Railroaders (30-24) their first lead of the game at 2-1.

That run earned a win for Idrogo (4-3), who delivered his second strong start on the road trip. The lefty tossed six innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six and walking two. He ended his afternoon by retiring the final seven to come to the plate against him.

The RailCats (22-31) grabbed the game’s first lead in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a run-scoring infield single from Sean Guida, but Cleburne had a quick answer in the top of the fifth. Daniel Robertson lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Grant Buck, who had reached on a dropped third strike to start the inning.

After Meimerstorf’s clutch hit gave the Railroaders the lead, Chase Simpson helped generate an important insurance run in the eighth. He drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a Ryan Brett single, then stole third. The throw to third by RailCats catcher Danny De La Calle bounced off the bat of Clanin into left field, allowing Simpson to score.

Nefi Ogando and Tyler Wilson slammed the door over the final three frames, with Wilson recording his 13th save. A fantastic throw from K.C. Huth cut down Marcus Mooney trying to stretch a single into a double with one out in the ninth, and Alex Crosby flied out to center four pitches later to end the game.

The Railroaders are off on Monday as they travel back to Cleburne to open a three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs at The Depot. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:06 PM.
