CLEBURNE, Tex. (July 6, 2019) – After a series of injuries left the Railroaders with just nine healthy pitchers heading into the series opener with Gary SouthShore, Cleburne has strengthened the staff with the addition of right-handed pitcher Greyfer Eregua.

The 25-year old Eregua was with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League for six starts earlier this season, going 0-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 26.2 innings. The righty struck out 18 while walking just eight, surrendering 24 hits for an opponent batting average of .250. He was released by the Crushers on June 12, despite tossing six innings and allowing only four hits and three runs in his latest start.

Eregua originally signed as an international free agent with the Chicago Cubs organization in 2012. He made his professional debut as an 18-year old in the Dominican Summer League, the first of five seasons he spent with the Cubs. The native of San Carlos, Venezuela put together his best season in 2015 at Low-A Eugene, posting a 2.47 ERA in 43.2 innings with two saves. He struck out 45 and allowing only 31 hits.

Despite putting together another solid campaign in 2016, Eregua was released by the Cubs organization. He latched on the following season with the Los Angeles Angels, splitting time between Class-A Burlington and High-A Inland Empire. It was there that the right-hander made the conversion to the rotation, starting nine games for his first non-relief appearance since 2012. He was released by the Angels in 2018 after four outings.

In addition to his affiliated tenure, Eregua owns four seasons of experience pitching in the highly-regarded Venezuelan Winter League with Magallanes. This past winter, he went 4-0 with a 2.29 ERA over 21 relief appearances with the club, issuing just two walks in 19.2 innings.

The Railroaders and RailCats continue their series on Saturday night at 7:06 PM. Lefty Michael Gunn (3-0, 3.48) starts for Cleburne, while Gary SouthShore will counter with fellow southpaw Trevor Lubking (4-3, 3.91).
