CLEBURNE, Texas (May 14, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders trimmed their roster ahead of the team’s final exhibition game on Tuesday night, announcing the release of left-handed pitcher Jacob Hill and infielders Patrick Palmeiro and Rafael Palmeiro. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Alex Burgos has been placed on the inactive list.

After injuries limited Rafael to just 31 games during the 2018 season, the 54-year old underwent offseason knee surgery that restricted his participation in the Railroaders Spring Training contests.

“We want to thank Rafael for his contributions on and off the field during his time with the Railroaders,” manager Brent Clevlen said. “Unfortunately, his body wasn’t at a point where he’s capable of being a regular in our lineup for a full season. 100 games in 110 days is a lot to ask of any ballplayer, and at this point he’s not 100% healthy.”

The Railroaders active roster now stands at 23 players, the maximum allowed under American Association roster rules. Cleburne’s active roster features eight right-handed pitchers, four left-handed pitchers, two catchers, four infielders, and five outfielders. In terms of classification, the roster has two veterans, three LS-5s, three LS-4s, two LS-3s, three LS-2s, three LS-1s, and seven rookies.

The 3rd season of Railroaders baseball and the club’s pursuit of its first division title kicks off with a four-game home series against the Sioux Falls Canaries, beginning on Thursday, May 16.
