CLEBURNE, Texas (Feb. 20, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders announced Wednesday the signing of utility man Logan Trowbridge.

 

Trowbridge delivered a strong 2018 season with the Wichita Wingnuts, hitting .278 over the course of 78 games. The 25-year old racked up six doubles, four triples, and one home run while driving in 25 runs and scoring 40 of his own. It was defensively, however, where Trowbridge truly made his mark, appearing at seven different positions throughout the season. The native of Santa Cruz, Calif., served as the primary backup catcher to John Nester in Wichita, playing 30 games behind the plate and committing just two errors. Trowbridge threw out nine of 31 attempted base stealers, good for a 29% caught stealing rate that ranked as the best in his young professional career.

 

“Logan came into Spring Training last year ready to compete, and really delivered a great season despite not having a consistent position,” manager Brent Clevlen said. “Obviously, his versatility is a tremendous asset, but we were also pleasantly surprised with his approach at the plate and the way he handles the bat.” 

 

Prior to the 2018 season, Trowbridge spent 71 games in the American Association with the Salina Stockade, hitting .224 with nine doubles, three triples, and one home run. The 6-foot, 190-pounder played at least one game at every position except pitcher, though he spent much of the season as the Stockade’s shortstop. Trowbridge began the 2017 season with the Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League, where he played just five games before being snapped up by Salina.

 

Trowbridge made his professional debut in 2016 with the Pecos League’s Great Bend Boom, hitting .359 with five home runs and 45 RBI in only 58 games. Trowbridge also stole 29 bases in 34 tries, while recording more walks (36) than strikeouts (31).

 

A right-handed hitter, Trowbridge kicked off his collegiate career with two seasons at the junior college level with the College of San Mateo. After hitting a combined .245 over the course of those two seasons, Trowbridge transferred to Cal State Bakersfield as a junior. He established himself as the Roadrunners starting catcher, gunning down 16 of 29 attempted base-stealers as a senior, while hitting .220 in 257 collegiate at-bats. For his career at Bakersfield, Trowbridge recorded eight doubles, four triples, and one home run.

 

In addition to the signing, the Railroaders also announced that catcher Blake Grant-Parks has been traded to the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League in exchange for a player to be named later. Grant-Parks played with the Railroaders in both 2017 and 2018, hitting a combined .284 with four home runs. The Yuba City, Calif., native led the Railroaders with a .312 batting average a season ago, but was limited by injuries to 42 games.

 

The transactions give the Railroaders a total of 18 players under contract for the 2019 season. American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during Spring Training, which opens on May 4.
