CLEBURNE, Texas (Jan. 22, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders announced Tuesday the signing of infielder Levi Scott.

Scott was named the Railroaders Position Player of the Year in 2018 after producing career-best numbers in most major offensive categories. The Burleson, Texas native hit .270 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI, adding 23 doubles for a robust .461 slugging percentage. In addition to the power, Scott drew a career-high 52 walks, posting a .364 on-base percentage that led all qualified Cleburne hitters.

Scott delivered strong numbers in 2017 with the Texas AirHogs, hitting .300 with 26 doubles, five triples and seven home runs. The Railroaders claimed him off waivers from the AirHogs on March 30, 2018.

“Levi has shown he can be one of the most dangerous hitters in this league the last two years,” manager Brent Clevlen said. “He’s the kind of bat you love having in the middle of your order, and we’re expecting a breakout season from him in 2019.”

The 26-year old played his entire collegiate career in the state of Texas, first for powerhouse Howard College, where he hit .314 and .359 over the course of two seasons with the Hawks. Scott was drafted after his sophomore season by the Baltimore Orioles in the 21st round of the 2013 MLB Draft, but elected not to sign and instead transferred to the University of Texas-Arlington, where he continued to hit at an impressive clip. As a junior, Scott hit .303 with three home runs and 19 RBI, and then followed that up with a .327 batting average as a senior. The power numbers jumped across the board as well, as Scott pounded 14 doubles and seven home runs, driving home 49 runs.

Scott was drafted again after his senior year, this time by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 28th round. After signing, Scott reported to the Blue Jays Gulf Coast League affiliate, then was promoted to Rookie-level Bluefield the following year. Scott hit .253 with 12 doubles and five home runs for Bluefield, but was released at the end of the 2016 season. He signed with Texas on April 4, 2017 to kick off his American Association tenure.

The 3rd season of Railroaders baseball and the club’s pursuit of its first division title kicks off with a four-game home series against the Sioux Falls Canaries, beginning on Thursday, May 16.
