RAILROADERS OPEN SERIES WITH RECORD-SETTING WIN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 14, 2018
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Hunter Clanin hit his first professional grand slam and drove in a franchise-record seven runs, and Cleburne rolled over the AirHogs for a 16-0 win at AirHogs Stadium in the series opener Tuesday night.
Clanin’s grand slam came as part of Cleburne’s five-run 8th inning, surpassing the six RBI Derrick Pyles had against Gary SouthShore on July 20, 2017.
The 16 runs tied the most Cleburne has ever scored in a game, and the 16-run margin of victory is the largest in franchise history.
Angel Rosa reached six times for the first time in franchise history, and the Railroaders walked 11 times for the first time in a game this year, while Levi Scott became the first player in the team’s history to walk four times in a game.
Clanin went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and the grand slam, and Angel Rosa clubbed a pair of doubles with three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Two of Scott’s four walks came with the bases loaded, giving him a team-high 50 RBI on the year, and Mike Gulino clubbed a two-run triple in the 4th inning – his first as a professional – as part of his first three-hit night with Cleburne. Trevor Sealey reached three times but failed to record a hit, ending his franchise-best 16-game hitting streak.
Railroaders starter Jared Mortensen didn’t allow a hit until the 4th inning and tossed five scoreless innings for his fourth win of the year.
Jesus Sanchez went nine-up, nine-down over the 6th, 7th and 8th innings, and John Hayes struck out the side in the 9th.
Cleburne touched up AirHogs starter Zhang Haonan for six runs on three hits with three walks and no strikeouts over 1.1 innings. Conner Camacho, who was in spring camp with the Railroaders, gave up three runs on five hits over 3.2 innings of relief.
Game 2 of the three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday night. RHP Patrick Mincey will go head-to-head with LHP Sean Stutzman.
The Railroaders return home to open a three-game set with the AirHogs – with the first two played at The Depot – on Monday, August 20. Tickets and all promo information are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
