FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 5, 2018
FARGO, North Dakota – Rafael Palmeiro went 2-for-5 with an RBI, but with a chance to sweep the series, Cleburne lost 7-4 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the finale at Newman Outdoor Field on Sunday afternoon.
Palmeiro – playing his second game since July 13 – picked up his first RBI since that date with a bloop single in the 3rd inning.
Patrick Mincey gave up seven runs on 12 hits with no walks and three strikeouts, falling to 0-9 on the year. Mincey gave up three homers – a solo shot to Devin Ahart, a two-run shot to Keury De La Cruz and a two-run homer by Tim Colwell.
Cleburne fell behind 1-0 in the 1st before an RBI single from Mike Gulino evened it up in the 2nd and Palmeiro’s RBI gave the Railroaders a lead in the 3rd.
The RedHawks took the lead for good with a four-run 3rd inning that included a Leobaldo Pina RBI triple and De La Cruz’s two-run homer.
The Railroaders rallied in the 9th and scored once on a wild pitch and again on Trevor Sealey’s RBI single.
Gulino had two hits and an RBI – his first multi-hit game as a professional – and Angelo Gumbs went 1-for-2 with a run scored before he was lifted from the game for Alex Polston.
Cam Monger reached twice and scored a run, while Sealey extended his hitting streak to nine with a three-hit afternoon.
Jesus Sanchez worked a scoreless inning in relief, and John Hayes worked a 1-2-3 8th inning for his first appearance in the series.
The Railroaders now continue the six-game roadtrip with their first-ever visit to Shaw Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. First pitch of the three-game series is set for 7:00 p.m. on Monday night.
