RAILROADERS SWEPT BY X’S

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 26, 2018
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Trevor Sealey went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, but Cleburne gave up a franchise-record 21 hits in a 13-1 loss to the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field on Thursday night.
Sealey’s double scored Alex Polston in the 7th inning, but the Explorers scored four in the 1st, five in the 3rd, once in the 4th, twice in the 5th and one more in the 6th to sweep the four-game series.
Cleburne has now lost a season-high seven consecutive games and went 1-7 over the season-long eight-game roadtrip.
Cleburne starter Dylan Mouzakes surrendered 10 runs on 14 hits with two walks and two strikeouts over four innings of work. Will Mathis pitched the final four innings, and gave up three runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Sealey had two of Cleburne’s four hits, while Alex Polston went 1-for-4 and Levi Scott also added a hit. Cleburne walked three times – Chase Simpson, Angelo Gumbs and K.C. Huth all reached on a walk – but the Railroaders struck out 16 times and punched out 50 times in the series.
The 21 hits allowed by Cleburne shattered the franchise record, and the Railroaders gave up 13 runs for the third time ever and second time in 2018.
Michael Lang reached on three infield singles and collected his 530th career hit as an Explorer, moving him into first all-time. Jay Baum went 5-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI, and David Kerian went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
The Railroaders now return home to open a six-day, seven-game homestand that begins with a doubleheader against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at 5:05 p.m. on Friday night. Game 2 of the seven-inning doubleheader will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1, and RHP Roman Gomez will start the first game with LHP Michael Gunn scheduled to start the second.

Friday night is also Fireworks Friday presented by Tarleton State University. Good seats still remain and tickets can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
