RAILROADERS DROP GAME 2 IN SIOUX CITY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 23, 2018
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Angelo Gumbs hit Cleburne’s first-ever inside-the-park homer, but the Railroaders suffered their most lopsided margin of defeat this year in an 11-2 loss to the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field on Tuesday night.
Gumbs’s homer – his first extra-base hit as a Railroader – came with one out in the 4th inning, when he hit a ball down the left-field line and into the corner where a wooden deck is located.
Sioux City LF Daniel Jackson came to play it and raised his hands to indicate the ball was stuck underneath the deck, but Gumbs kept running after no umpire made an official ruling. After he scored, the umpires conferred and decided to award Gumbs home plate to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 4th inning.
Angel Rosa opened the scoring with a leadoff homer on the second pitch of the game before Sioux City’s Jay Baum clubbed the first-ever grand slam against the Railroaders in the bottom of the 1st inning.
The Explorers added three more runs on David Kerian’s two-run single and Daniel Jackson’s RBI base hit in the 6th inning, and Jose Sermo hit his team-best 11th homer – a two-run shot – as part of the four-run Explorer 7th.
Josh Hodges was pegged for seven runs over six innings, and reliever Will Mathis gave up all four runs – two earned – in the 7th.
K.C. Huth extended his hitting streak to three games with a multi-hit night, but Cleburne struck out 13 times as a team and didn’t walk once all night. Levi Scott had three strikeouts and Cam Monger also had three K’s.
Cleburne has now lost five consecutive games for the third time this season. The Railroaders have not yet lost six straight.
Game 3 of the four-game series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Explorers have yet to announce their starting pitcher, and RHP Patrick Mincey will throw for the Railroaders.

Cleburne returns home on July 27th with a doubleheader against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Tickets and all promo info are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
