CLEBURNE, Texas – Dylan Mouzakes turned in a quality start, but the Cleburne bullpen faltered in a 10-4 loss to the Kansas City T-Bones in the series opener at The Depot on Monday night.
Mouzakes threw 116 pitches over six innings of work, but ran into trouble in a three-run 3rd inning that included an RBI double from Nick Torres and a two-run homer from Taylor Featherston.
K.C. Huth hit his first homer of the year on the first pitch in the 5th to cut the deficit to 3-1, and Cam Monger drove in another with a two-out RBI double in the 6th.
Patrick Young gave up six runs over 2.2 innings of work, including a bases-clearing double from Todd Cunningham in the 7th inning. Levi Scott hit a solo homer with two outs in the 8th to cut Kansas City’s lead back to three, but Cunningham’s RBI single – his fourth of the night – along with Nick Torres’s three-run homer in the 9th.
Levi Scott reached twice and scored a pair of runs, and Angel Rosa extended his RBI streak to five games with a 9th-inning RBI groundout. Cam Monger had a three-hit night and Chase Simpson walked twice.
Cleburne starting catcher Breshon Kimbell started the first four innings after being signed ahead of first pitch, but was lifted in the 5th with an injury. Emergency catcher John Menken came on in his relief and went 1-for-2 with a single, a walk and a run scored.
Game 2 of the three-game series is set for 7:06 p.m. on Tuesday night. Cleburne will send LHP Michael Gunn to the mound and Kansas City will throw RHP Lucas Irvine.
