RAILROADERS DROP RUBBER MATCH TO SALTDOGS

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Rafael Palmeiro hit a two-out, two-run double in the 4th inning, but another late Saltdogs homer doomed Cleburne in a 4-3 loss to Lincoln in the rubber match at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.
Palmeiro’s homer drove in the second and third runs in the Cleburne (9-13) 4th after the Saltdogs took a lead with an RBI single from Chase Simpson in the 3rd.
The ‘Dogs (14-9) got another run back on Brant Whiting’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the 4th, and Brandon Jacobs clubbed the go-ahead two-run homer with two outs in the 6th inning to give Lincoln the lead for good.
Cleburne starter Patrick Mincey surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings of work, while Will Mathis worked a scoreless 8th inning.
Lincoln starter Tyler Herron gave up three runs on eight hits with one walk and nine strikeouts over seven innings, while Jose Jose earned his first save of 2018.
Cameron Monger went 2-for-4 with a strikeout, while Patrick Palmeiro notched his team-best 16th RBI in the 4th. Levi Scott went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored, and Alex Polston also reached twice. Chevy Clarke walked twice with two strikeouts.
The Railroaders now head back home to open a seven-game homestand beginning with a four-game series against the Wichita Wingnuts on Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:06 p.m., and RHP Patrick Young will pitch for the Cleburne Railroaders.
