CLEBURNE FALLS SHORT IN BACK-AND-FORTH OPENER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 8, 2018

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Patrick Palmeiro hit the first grand slam in franchise history, but Cleburne gave up a late lead in a back-and-forth 9-7 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
BOX SCORE
Palmeiro’s grand slam, coming in Cleburne’s 120th game as a franchise, came as part of a five-run 6th inning that turned a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 lead.
The Railroaders danced around trouble in the 6th and 7th – two innings in which the Saltdogs scored a run but left the bases loaded – but Chase Simpson hit his second homer of the game, a two-run shot in the 8th that gave the Saltdogs the lead for good.
The ‘Dogs would add an insurance run in the 8th with an RBI single from Dashenko Ricardo, and J.R. Bunda notched his fifth save in the 9th.
Chevy Clarke, signed earlier in the day, opened the scoring with a solo homer in the 4th inning. The Saltdogs answered with Brandon Jacobs’s two-run homer in the bottom-half of the frame.
Chase Simpson clubbed his first homer of the night in the 5th – a two-run shot that gave Lincoln a 4-1 lead.
The Saltdogs cut a 6-4 deficit in half with an unearned run in the 6th, but a Cam Monger RBI double restored Cleburne’s two-run lead in the 7th.
The ‘Dogs inched closer again with a Ricardo RBI single in the 7th.
Cleburne starter Dylan Mouzakes gave up four runs over 4.1 innings, and Tyler Wilson surrendered three runs in the 8th for his first loss of 2018.
Game 2 of the three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Jared Mortensen will throw for the Railroaders and RHP Mike Tamburino will pitch for the Saltdogs.
