RAILROADERS ADD TWO NEW POSITION PLAYERS

CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have signed OF Cameron Monger and INF Angelo Gumbs, the club announced Saturday.
Monger, 29, is a native of Weatherford, TX and played two games with Cleburne last year before finishing up with 24 games as a Texas AirHog. Gumbs, 25, is a native of Torrance, CA and is playing his first season of independent professional baseball after spending parts of eight seasons in the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds system.
“Cameron is a very hard worker,” said general manager Bill Adams. “He has a lot of tools to play the game and be successful at it, not to mention his fantastic leadership qualities.”
A 27th-round pick of the San Diego Padres out of the University of New Mexico in 2009, Monger has a career .758 OPS in 621 minor-league games at all levels. He posted a .775 OPS in 66 games of affiliated baseball and has a .755 OPS in 555 games of independent baseball, playing for five different leagues. Monger’s best season came in 2013, when he slashed .318/.411/.427 in 71 games for the Fort Worth Cats.
Gumbs, a 2nd-round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2010 MLB Draft, has a career .664 OPS in his eight seasons of affiliated minor-league baseball. Gumbs played for Double-A Pensacola in the Reds’ system last year, slashing .231/.301/.313 with one homer and seven RBI In 54 games. His best season came in 2012, when he posted a .272/.320/.432 slashline with a career-high seven homers and 36 RBI with Single-A Charleston (NYY) in 2012.
