CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have signed pitcher Jared Mortensen, the club announced Wednesday.
Mortensen, 29, is a native of Abbotsford, Canada and will begin his sixth season of professional baseball.
“Jared is a bulldog of a pitcher,” pitching coach Ed Pruitt said. “When he takes the mound, he gives us everything he has. He challenges hitters, and makes them put the ball in play. I’m looking forward to watching him go out and do the job that we expect him to.”
Mortensen pitched for the Texas AirHogs in 2017, posting an 8-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in 15 appearances and 10 starts. He was traded to the Kansas City T-Bones at the trade deadline and gave up 10 runs on 18 hits in 12 innings to finish the season.
In his career, Mortensen has a 37-23 record with a 4.07 ERA in 127 appearances and 70 starts. Undrafted out of LSU-Shreverport, Mortensen reached as high as Triple-A Durham (Tampa Bay Rays) in 2015 and Triple-A Fresno (Houston Astros) in 2017. This season will be Mortensen’s third in the American Association (2013, 2017).
The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
