CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have signed LHP Michael Gunn, the club announced Tuesday.
Gunn, 25, will begin his third consecutive season of independent professional baseball and first with the Railroaders.
“Michael Gunn is a crafty lefty,” pitching coach Ed Pruitt said. “Michael is going to have a great contribution to the bullpen. He has four solid pitches, which he can pitch to both sides of the plate. Definitely looking forward to seeing Michael pitch and surgically remove hitters from the box.”
A former 16th-round pick of the Boston Red Sox out of Arkansas in 2014, Gunn pitched two seasons with the Red Sox organization, reaching High-A Salem of the Carolina League in 2015. In two seasons of affiliated baseball, Gunn posted an 0-4 record with a 5.75 ERA in 27 appearances – all in relief.
Gunn then signed on to pitch with River City (Frontier League) in 2016, appearing in 33 games with a 4.68 ERA to go alongside 21 walks and 24 strikeouts in 25 innings. In 2017, Gunn pitched for Pittsburg of the Pacific Association, making the only 12 starts of his professional career and posting a 5-4 record with a 4.41 ERA across 16 appearances.
The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
