CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have signed OF Matt Helms, the club announced Wednesday.
Helms, an Oklahoma native, spent each of the last four seasons in the Canadian-American League and the last two with the Ottawa Champions.
The 26-year-old has a .281/.335/.377 slashline in his four seasons of professional baseball after playing for both Seminole State College and the University of Louisville. Helms’s best season came with Quebec in 2014, when he hit .315 with three home runs and 32 RBI in 87 games as a rookie.
“I’m just excited to get down there and be closer to home and play in front family,” Helms said. “I’m excited to further my career and to play in the American Association.”
The Railroaders acquired the rights to Helms when they traded a player to be named later to the Champions on March 26.
The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Season tickets and single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
