CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have announced the signings of Conner Camacho and Scott Plaza, the club announced Tuesday.
Camacho pitched for the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League last year, while Plaza pitched for the Sonoma Stompers for the Pacific Association in 2017.
Camacho made his debut in professional baseball with the Invaders, posting an 0-1 record and 5.70 ERA in 23 appearances – 20 in relief. He recorded 30 innings, giving up 27 runs on 42 hits with 27 walks and 23 strikeouts. He also pitched collegiately at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
“Camacho’s going to be a solid short & middle relief righty for us,” pitching coach Ed Pruitt said. “He’s got great control and command of his pitches, which can carry us into the later innings for our closer.”
Plaza, after taking 2016 off, made 13 starts for Sonoma last season, finishing 5-2 with a 4.52 ERA in 81.2 innings. The righty gave up 43 runs on 83 hits with 35 walks and 68 strikeouts after posting an 0-4 record with a 7.45 ERA in six appearances with Schaumburg (Frontier League) in 2015. Plaza also won the 2014 NCAA Division III national championship with Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Season tickets and single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
