CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have signed power-hitting Levi Scott, the club announced today.
Scott, 25, is a native of Burleson and slashed .300/.382/.464 with seven homers and 49 RBI in 95 games with the Texas AirHogs a year ago.
Scott was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 21st round of the 2013 MLB Draft, but decided to transfer to the University of Texas-Arlington where he was then selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 28th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
Scott played two years of rookie ball in the Jays’ system, hitting .253 with six homers and 46 RBI over 96 games. Last season was his first of independent professional baseball.
“I’m super excited and pumped to be back at home,” Scott said. “I’m glad to be back in front of the home fans and the people who’ve supported me for so long. I’m happy to play for a quality team and ready to get out on the field.”
Scott will likely feature as Cleburne’s first baseman with occasional starts in the outfield.
The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Season tickets and single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
