CLEBURNE, Texas – The Cleburne Railroaders have signed LHP Will Mathis, RHP Josh Hodges and OF Trevor Sealey, the club announced Thursday.
Both Mathis and Hodges pitched in parts of 2017 and will rejoin the team for the upcoming season, while Sealey played for the nearby Texas AirHogs and will begin his first season as a Railroader.
Hodges, a former 7th-round pick of the Florida Marlins out of high school, started six games at the beginning of 2017, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.09 ERA over 35 innings. He then finished the year with Salina, going 3-6 with a 4.91 ERA in 13 starts.
Mathis, a former 25th-round pick of the Seattle Mariners in the 2013 MLB Draft, appeared in 11 games to end year, finishing with a 1-1 record and a 3.54 ERA in nine relief appearances and two starts. This will be Mathis’s third season of independent baseball.
Sealey, in his third full-time season of independent baseball, hit .215 with one home run and 21 RBI in 94 games with the AirHogs last year.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to be a part of the Cleburne Railroaders,” Sealey said. “I’m excited to play with such a strong team and to chase after a championship for the city. I will be proud to put on a Railroaders jersey each and every game.”
The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Season, half-season and 10-game flex tickets are on sale now, and single-game tickets will go on sale April 1.
