CLEBURNE, Texas -- The Cleburne Railroaders have acquired veteran RHP Carlos Pimentel from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in exchange for future considerations, the American Association and Cleburne Railroaders jointly announced on Thursday.

Pimentel, 28, is a native of the Dominican Republic and finished 7-4 with a 4.68 ERA over 14 starts with the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2017.

The right-hander broke into affiliated minor league baseball with the Texas Rangers in 2007, and spent the next seven seasons in the Texas farm system, reaching AA Frisco in 2010 and 2011.

“Carlos is an experienced pitcher and we’re excited to add him to our pitching staff,” pitching coach Ed Pruitt said. “We had a good staff last year and Carlos is a piece who can help us make a run.”

Pimentel then spent two seasons in the Chicago Cubs system, pitching for AAA Iowa in 2014 and 2015. While with the Iowa Cubs, Pimentel started the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game and also earned 2015 all-Pacific Coast League honors as the Triple-A Pitcher of the Year after going 12-6 with a 2.95 ERA over 26 starts.

Pimentel’s most recent stint in affiliated baseball came in 2016, when he finished 12-8 with a 5.65 ERA in 28 starts for AAA El Paso in the San Diego Padres system.

Pimentel will join a Railroaders pitching staff that finished fourth in the American Association with a 3.96 team ERA in 2017. Along with INF Jordan Dean, Pimentel is the second acquisition the team has made this offseason.

The 2018 season begins May 18 when the Railroaders host the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes. Both season and half-season tickets are now on sale, along with 10-game flex packs. Single-game tickets will go on sale in April.
