Railroaders re-sign Grant-Parks and Van Stratten, also add lefty Mathis07/27/2017 8:23 PM Article By: CLEBURNE, Texas -- The Cleburne Railroaders announced five roster moves Thursday afternoon. The Railroaders have re-signed C Blake Grant-Parks and OF Nick Van Stratten, and added LHP Will Mathis. C Ermindo Escobar and OF Oscar Mesa have been released. Grant-Parks rejoins the team after two separate stints in 2017. He has intermittently served as the team’s bullpen catcher, and in his first season of independent baseball after three years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, Grant-Parks has a .234/.280/.338 slashline with no homers and seven RBI. Van Stratten also rejoins the team after playing in each of the first four games in 2017. The outfielder had three hits in 15 at-bats, but does have a career .319/.385/.442 slashline in 12 seasons of professional baseball. Mathis is beginning his first stretch with the club. A native of Carlsbad, NM and University of New Mexico alumni, Mathis made 44 appearances -- 40 in relief -- with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in 2016. He had a 9.00 ERA over 12 appearances with Sussex County in the Can-Am League this year, and he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 25th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
Escobar caught 37 of Cleburne’s first 64 games and hit his first professional homer in the United States on July 26. Mesa had the team’s third-highest OPS (.720) in 31 starts this year. |
